Sen. Bernie Sanders (Ikola, Vermont), one of the Senate’s most prominent progressives, says he likely won’t run for the Senate again after his fourth term expires in 2030. .
In an interview with Politico, Sanders was asked if this would be his last term in Congress, to which he replied: “Yes. I will be 89 years old when I leave here. You can make it into a figure. I don’t know, but I think it’s probably true. ”
Sanders won re-election last month, defeating Republican Gerald Malloy 63% to 32%.
Sanders has been a member of Congress since 1991 and served in the House of Representatives for 16 years before being elected to the Senate in 2006.
He finished second in the 2016 and 2020 Democratic presidential primaries and currently serves as chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

Sanders, who caucuses with Senate Democrats, recently criticized Democrats for not putting enough emphasis on basic economic issues.
He urged Vice President Kamala Harris to talk more about economic inequality in the United States during this year’s presidential election, declaring after her loss that Democrats had “abandoned” the working class.
“It should come as no surprise that the Democratic Party, which has abandoned working-class people, now realizes that the working class has abandoned them,” Sanders said in a statement after Election Day.
