This year has been kind to professional sports in Los Angeles. Between a World Series championship for the Los Angeles Dodgers, an MLS Cup championship for the Los Angeles Galaxy, and a winning season for both NFL teams, Southland residents have been spoiled in 2024.
Who else is having a good year? According to the annual valuations of professional sports teams released by Forbes magazine on Dec. 12, the owners of these teams say Los Angeles-area teams are worth a lot of money, according to the report.
Of the 50 franchises on the list, it’s no surprise that it’s number one. The NFL’s Dallas Cowboys have been ranked the most valuable team in sports for the ninth year in a row. The valuation exceeds $10 billion, marking the first time a team has surpassed the double-digit multi-billion dollar threshold.

In second place was a team from California, but for most Angelenos, it wasn’t their favorite team. According to the magazine, the Golden State Warriors, a franchise fresh from a four-time championship dynasty and striving for another championship this season, are worth $7.6 billion.
The third most valuable team will be playing in LA. Perhaps surprising to some, Southern California’s most valuable franchise is the NFL’s LA Rams.
According to Forbes, the 2021 Super Bowl winner is worth about $7.55 billion. A large part of that can be attributed to the franchise’s home base, SoFi Stadium, which has become a major hub for LA entertainment in just four years of operation.

Of course, without the purple and gold, there would be no list of worthy sports franchises. The LA Lakers came in eighth on the list, with a valuation of approximately $7.1 billion.
Other teams on the list included the No. 23 LA Clippers ($5.5 billion), No. 24 LA Dodgers ($5.45 billion), and No. 31 LA Chargers ($5.1 billion).
