A vehicle was found submerged in saltwater in Orange County on Saturday, and firefighters rescued the driver.
Newport Beach Fire responded to a report of an SUV found in the water near the Corona del Mar State Beach shoreline around 5:30 a.m.
Crews were able to head into the water and rescue the driver. The person was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The vehicle, a black Jeep Wrangler, was also completely submerged. The crew dealt with “difficult conditions caused by waves rolling the vehicle.”
Photos of the rescue effort showed a large tractor and several other public works workers’ vehicles, which pulled out the SUV and then took it away.

“Teamwork and determination from all responders was critical to overcoming the danger posed by the early morning surf,” Newport Beach Fire said.
It is unclear how the car ended up on the wave. Authorities have not released further details about the rescue.
The events leading up to the drowning remain under investigation by the Newport Beach Police Department.
