The thief stole two $2 million sculptures in an art robbery in Anaheim Hills.
One of Sir Daniel Wynn’s two precious sculptures is the stolen sculpture from the storage area inside his Shawme in Orange County for £4,000. The work, known as the “Quantum Mechanics Homme,” is valued at around $1.8 million. The eight-foot tall steel, bronze and Lucite creation depicts a man with winged horns.
“These two sculptures are not easy to steal,” Wynn said. “When I do an exhibition, it takes 10 people to move it on a forklift.”
Beyond the value of the work, Wynn said that the sculpture had a special meaning to him.
“That’s something most people recognize,” he said. “It’s a powerful piece. It’s a personal piece, because it represents my core as an artist.
“It feels like a part of my history is being lured, so to speak.”
Wynn said someone apparently broke into storage between Saturday night and Monday morning. He said.
No arrests have been reported. Police said they are investigating what is believed to be targeted theft.
Regarding the location of the Artworks, Winn, who pursued art after studying reconstructive surgery at UCI, said he fears it may be anywhere in the world, but hopes they will be found.
“It shakes my heart when it’s so targeted,” Wynn said. “If they are stealing or trying to resell for scrap, this is not what you do.
“These are the whole work of my technique, the philosophy of creating these two works,” Wynn said. “I’m very sad. I hope they show up.”
The second sculpture, entitled “Icarus in in,” is valued at around $350,000. The 8-foot tall work depicts Greek mythical figures.
