The loved one is devastated after a man is shot and killed by a suspect in San Pedro in an unprovoked attack.

On the morning of July 19th, Mardo Queo Gomez Lopez was working with a crew of landscapers outside the home, near the 2500 block of Gaffe Street.

That’s when the suspect in a white sedan crashed into a trailer for a job parked on the street. Armed with a gun, the man fired at the landscaper.

“In less than a minute [of the crash]I heard the gunshot,” Blanco Trevino said. said the house the landscapers were working on when the shooting happened. “And at that point they said, ‘Let’s get out of here!”

Fearing their lives, the crew began to escape the gunmen and searched for a safe shelter nearby.

While trying to escape, Lopez was hit in the back by a gunshot. He was taken to hospital and later died of injuries.

“[The suspect] I shot him in the trees and in the collarbone,” Trevino told KTLA’s Sarah Welch.

The video on the phone captured a desperate scene as the male suspect got out of his damaged car and fled after a fatal shooting.

Police arriving at the scene found the suspect in a nearby yard.

He was only said as a Hispanic man in his 50s. His identity has not been disclosed, and the motivation behind the shooting remains unknown.

Friends and family described Lopez as a hardworking and kind person who worked full-time in the hospitality industry on weekdays, and earned extra money as a landscaper and housekeeper on weekends.

Other landscapers who survived the shooting were shocked and said there were so many unanswered questions, including those that caused the gunman to fire that day.

The neighbor was shaking after hearing the deadly shooting and described the neighborhood as a quiet and safe area.

“For anything to happen here, this is very random and very scary, as this is not the type of activity that takes place in this neighborhood,” Trevino said.

The incident is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

As the family continues to grieve, Trevino is raising funds to help bring Lopez’s body to Guatemala, where he grew up. You can find the GoFundMe page supporting Lopez’s families here.
