A 40-year-old man with a history of violent crimes who allegedly fired a handgun at passing vehicles in San Bernardino County was taken into custody after a police-led foot pursuit, authorities announced Tuesday.
Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of a man, now identified as Colton resident Edward Metcalfe, firing shots at a passing motorist around 3 a.m. on Nov. 12.
“When officers arrived, the suspect was still standing in the street with a firearm,” Ontario PD said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “As officers began to give verbal commands to the suspect, the suspect retreated to a nearby hotel and discarded the firearm.”

Body-worn camera footage released by the department shows officers chasing a 40-year-old man on foot in a hotel parking lot, leaving him on the ground near his vehicle. The gun was recovered.
A 40-year-old man, seen in the video wearing a white shirt and with a bandage on his nose, was taken into custody after a brief standoff and arrested on multiple felonies, authorities said.

Metcalfe is currently under post-release community supervision outside of Riverside County, officials added.
