Detectives are seeking the public’s help to find the driver responsible for the hit and run, which killed a 62-year-old man on Manchester Square on Friday night.
The fatal crash occurred around 9:12pm, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Preliminary investigations show that when attacking a pedestrian crossing outside the marked crossing on 83rd Avenue it is a brightly colored, presumably white SUV moving north along Western Avenue.
“The vehicle was stopped, provided assistance and was unable to stay on the scene as required by law,” LAPD said in the release. “The vehicle was last seen heading north on West Avenue from 83rd Avenue.”
Police did not immediately provide a description of the suspect or say whether speed or alcohol was a factor.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Station responded to attempted life-saving measures, but by the time they arrived they pronounced the dead man on the scene. The victim was identified as 62-year-old Danny Etis.
“If a driver gets caught in a collision, he should immediately stop and notify emergency services and remind him to stay on the scene to identify himself,” LAPD wrote.
Additionally, the LAPD reminded the public that rewards up to $50,000 can be used by community members who provide information that leads to criminal identification, arrest, belief or resolution through civil compromise.
