Vista, Calif. (KSWB/KUSI) – Authorities are considering the death of a 9-year-old girl who underwent general anesthesia for dental surgery at Dreamtime Dentistry in Vista, California on March 18th.
A statement from Dr. Ryan Watkins, a dental anesthesiologist at Dream-Time Dentistry, said, “The patient was referred to our office for dental care under general anesthesia due to his young age and acute circumstances anxiety.

The statement continued: “Following the procedure, she was released from hospital in a stable state. She is awake with stable vital signs…”
Reports from the San Diego County Clinic office say the girl was discharged from the facility and claimed she was home to sleep.
When she got home, she was placed in bed where she was sleeping there, KSWB/Kusi reports. The family checked her all day and later discovered that she didn’t respond.
The girl was declared dead upon arrival at Radi Children’s Hospital.

“As a report from a medical examiner, we rule out the fact that after recovering following the procedure, the patient was discharged in a stable state. She was awake with stable vital signs.”
The statement added that the cause of death has not been determined at this time. Prosecutors are conducting a thorough investigation and they are fully cooperating.
This is not the first incident at Dreamtime Dentistry.
In 2016, a patient caring for Dr. Watkins almost died after a heart incident during anesthesia dental procedures.
Nexstar’s KSWB/Kusi contacted the office of the medical inspector who is conducting an investigation but did not receive responses as in the public time.
A GoFundMe has been set up to cover funeral costs, and as of Monday it has raised more than $15,000.
