Saying goodbye to Monstropolis, Hello to Pandora – Disneyland Resort is closing “Monsters, Inc.” Ride for a new “avatar” experience inspired by James Cameron’s science fiction world ocean.

Monsters, Inc. Rescue to Mike & Sulley! Construction of the “avatar” themed land that would close in early 2026 and in the Hollywood Backlot area of Disneyland California Resort will begin, Disney announced Thursday.

The “Avatar”-themed ride in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida is based on Cameron’s first “Avatar” film, but the new Anaheim experience is shaped around Pandora in “Avatar: The Way of the Water.”

Imagineer first announced the “Avatar” destination at a fan convention last summer, describing it as a true Disney fashion, “an emotional experience on a dynamic, intense, epic scale.”

Official details about what the attraction entails, as well as a timeline for construction, are wrapped.

A concept image shared on Disney Parks’ blog shows guests on boats traveling through bioluminescent lagoons, encountering a giant whale-like creature called talcuns jumping up and down the ocean.

“Monsters, Inc.” Closure Opened in 2006, the Ride marks the end of the era for Pixar Classic fans. On the family-friendly ride, guests raced to help monster Mike and Sally save their human friend Boo, recreating scenes from the original film and taking guests on a fast, fast journey through the city of Monstropolis.

In addition to creating an “Avatar” experience, the resort is working on a new “Coco” themed attraction, two new “Avengers” attractions and a parking structure.

The “Coco”-themed attraction is one of the changes that will come to Disneyland.

Disney announced Thursday that construction of the “Coco” adventure is expected to begin in the fall.

“The charm is filled with characters and music! – you know your beloved films, you know from the movies you love, and join Miguel on a trip to the Land of the Dead,” Disney said in a blog post. “This marks my first ‘coco’ ride at Disney Parks! ”

There is no timeline for the construction of the attraction on the Avengers campus at Disneyland Adventure in California.

The new parking lot will be built on the east side of Disneyland Resort and will provide approximately 6,000 parking spaces and a shuttle and ride-sharing area. A pedestrian bridge will be added to connect Harbour Boulevard to the transport hub.

“This is just the beginning of exciting growth here at Disneyland Resort,” Disney said in a blog post. “We look forward to sharing more about all these projects in the future.”
