The pair of Democrats and Republican representatives appeared to support Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan for Israel to take over Gaza on Sunday.
R-Ark. Rick Crawford rep and Dn.J. Josh Gottheimer appeared on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream after a joint visit to Israel. Netanyahu’s office is facing some criticism after the National Security Cabinet voted on Friday to allow the IDF to take over Gaza in full.
Crawford argued that such a plan would be safer for the remaining hostages in Hamas’ custody.
“I think if the IDF takes the actions they are talking about, they are at a high risk of dying under current conditions,” Crawford said of the hostages. “Essentially Hamas is starving them. People talk about starvation in Gaza. Starr is happening in Hamas’ hands, mainly directed at the hostages they have.”

Meanwhile, Gotheimer said that Israeli acquisitions are the “right answer” as long as the IDF’s involvement is truly temporary. He argued that Hamas must be completely crushed, but another governing structure must be introduced.
“The Prime Minister made it very clear… that it was not intended to be a long-term occupation or annexation. I think this is the right answer,” he said. “We need to crush Hamas and get humanitarian assistance before we can acquire a new governing structure.”
Israeli security cabinets have approved plans to occupy Gaza city
Gotheimer added that he hopes the negotiations will lead to “multinarian Arab forces” that will maintain peace in Gaza for the long term.

Netanyahu and his security cabinet met throughout the night before announcing on Friday that Israel planned to seize control of the entire territory of Gaza and ultimately hand over to friendly Arab forces against Hamas.
“The security cabinet has approved the Prime Minister’s proposal to defeat Hamas. The IDF will prepare to take control of Gaza city while distributing humanitarian assistance to civilians outside of the combat zone,” Netanyahu announced on X.
The office said the security cabinet voted to adopt five principles, including disarming Hamas, reviving all hostages, returning those who have been alive and deceased, denouncement of the Gaza Strip, Israeli security control in the Gaza Strip, and the establishment of alternative citizens of Hamas.

The prospect of a full military occupation in Gaza comes 20 years after Israel completely left the enclave when the government forcibly eliminated around 8,600 Jewish residents from the region. Shortly afterwards Hamas won the Palestinian legislative election, staged a violent coup to overthrow Palestinian authority and take control of the Gaza Strip.
