Liquid methamphetamine hidden in dozens of plastic bottles labeled Dog Shampoo at Los Angeles International Airport this month.
The April 1 seizure was carried out by customs and border guards assigned to the LAX outbound enforcement team. More than 17 pounds of liquid methamphetamine was found in a bottle aimed at Australia, according to CBP.
The cargo was declared “each dog shampoo.”
After opening the bottle, officers found a crystallized white material that they tested to be positive for methamphetamine.
The estimated potential street value for Australia was estimated at $1.8 million. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, approximately 7.5% of Australia’s population uses methamphetamine throughout their lifetimes.
Nationally from October 2023 to September 2024, CBP’s Field Operations Office and the US Border Patrol seized more than 174,000 pounds of methamphetamine.
