The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has confirmed cases of measles in county residents who have traveled internationally recently.
Health officials said individuals visited multiple public locations on May 28th and are potentially infectious. Those who were on the following sites during the listed time frame may be public.
Costco, 18659, via Princesa, Santa Clarita, 10am to 12pm, 19037 Golden Valley Road, Santa Clarita, 2:30pm to 4pm, Walmart, 25450, Stevenson Ranch, 3:15pm to 4:45pm
“Measles is a serious respiratory disease that easily spreads in the air and on the surface, especially among people who are not yet protected,” Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said in a statement. “The best way to protect yourself and your family is a highly effective measles vaccine.”
Symptoms of measles include:
High fever (may increase up to 104°) Coughing nose (Coliza) Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
Symptoms usually appear within 7-14 days.
Officials will also urge residents to check their measles immune status as the summer travel season begins, particularly in light of the ongoing outbreak in the US and abroad.
The last measles incident for a Los Angeles County resident was reported in May.
Public health encourages residents to get vaccinated through health care providers or at participating low-cost clinics.
