A few weeks after Sawtelle residents began drawing their own crosswalk near the busy park, the city of Los Angeles intervened to draw a real deal.
On Friday, city workers were able to be spotted laying classic white stripes on a crosswalk near Stoner Park.

Sawtelle resident Jonathan Hale told KTLA last month that the city’s process of creating a new crosswalk was so cumbersome that he and his neighbors hosted a painting party and hosted them to do it themselves.
“I have to ask the city this and this, and there is an approval process, you have to do budgeting, and you have to get a list of subcontractors, and you have to get approval, and you have to have a committee… whatever you know, I don’t want to handle it all, so I just did it,” Hale said.
A statement from Mayor Karen Bass’s office confirmed work began Friday morning, saying, “Sidewalk improvements will be set up in the coming weeks.”
“Base Mayor and Councillor Traci Park believe it should be safe for people to walk, roll, ride bikes and drive around the neighborhood,” the statement said.
