The theft of a chaotic vehicle that hit a momentary Sunday morning awakened Sherman Oaks residents and added up at least one uninvolved parked car.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded at 8:37am in the 13,000 block of Campston Street, seeking a vehicle theft.
Dramatic surveillance footage captured the moment when the suspect’s driver sprinted behind the wheels of a red and black towing truck, a stolen, weakly attached grey pickup truck swaying through the corner of a shaking residential area, a stolen, weakly attached grey pickup truck from the towing truck bed.
After a nasty skirt around the corner, the entire vehicle is seen leaning slightly outward, with the back end of the gray pickup truck sliding off the bed and slamming it onto a white pickup truck parked by the side of the road. One neighbor who requested to remain anonymous told KTLA that the uninvolved white pickup truck belongs to his stepfather, and told him his truck was summed.
However, the big crash does not stop the driver, and the video shows the suspect keeps driving, prompting the stolen pickup to a wooden power pole. This second hit seemed to eventually tear a stolen truck from the suspect’s tow truck bed, and still didn’t stop the suspect from continuing to escape.

As of Sunday afternoon, LAPD has not reported any arrests in connection with the incident and is encouraging anyone with more information to contact local law enforcement.
This was not the first time a suspect has used a tow truck to steal someone’s vehicle in Los Angeles County this year. In April, a woman’s black sedan was stolen from outside Tarzana’s house by an unidentified suspect. Authorities were eventually abandoned on the side of the 101 highway and when the victim was eventually reunited with the car, she discovered it had been stripped of that part.
