The fatal hit and run driver was arrested after returning to the crime scene in Los Angeles, officials confirmed.
According to the LAPD, at about 1:10am on May 2, a black Mercedes-Benz was fatally struck him as a pedestrian crossed the Sherman Way just east of Independence Avenue.
The victim was identified only as a man in his 60s.
After striking the victim, LAPD said the driver continued eastbound on Sherman Way, failing to stop as required by law, identify himself or provide assistance.
Fire paramedics responded to the scene and declared the dead man. LAPD said his name is withheld on the next pending notice of the family.
The hit and run driver then returned to the scene while the detectives were actively investigating.
Although details are limited, police said he was interviewed and identified as 29-year-old Marvin Edgard Pineda, a Northridge resident and driver of a 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE53.
Pineda was arrested and booked at LAPD Van Nuiss Prison for felony hits and run.
“A driver will remember that if he is involved in a crash, he will need to be safe, notify emergency services and stop immediately if he continues to stay on the scene to identify himself,” police released.
