A teenager died after a severe crash at Dana Point Tuesday morning, and five other people were injured.
Six teenagers were traveling in pickup trucks when they crashed into a tree.
The teenager’s identity is still unknown, but family and friends said the girl who died was only 16 years old.
At the edge of Dana Point Harbor Drive is a small monument with flowers and candles where the pickup truck crashed.
According to the sheriff’s department, the crash occurred just before noon.
“I heard of the accident and it sounded like a big explosion,” said Mark Prutzierak, who lives in Dana Point.
Przybylak was nearby when it happened and he said he ran to ask for help without thinking.
Upon arriving at the scene of the crash, he realized that the driver had been seriously injured and five other teenagers had been seriously injured.
“I was just with the girl and I was holding her hand. I could still feel the warmth of my hands. I prayed,” Przybylak said.
Przybylak said he was with the teenager and held her hand and prayed. He said others quickly arrived to help.
Gustavo Carmona, who was nearby, also witnessed a crash. “It was destroyed from the front and sides. Firefighters had to remove one or two doors to drive out the kids,” he said.
The driver has passed away, but other teenagers were taken to hospital, with some seriously injured, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
“I want them to know that she won’t die alone, and God used me to hold her hand,” Prujvirak said.
Przybylak told the parents of the young woman to know that her daughter is not alone in her final moments.
The crash remains under investigation, and the cause is still unknown.
