Authorities say the drunk driver was negligent in a fiery collision that killed four people and injured at least two people on Sunday on Norwalk on the 605 Expressway.
California Highway Patrol Officer Zachary Salazar told reporters that better decisions could have prevented fatal conflicts.
According to KTLA, it is completely preventable due to the fact that one of the drivers was driving under the influence,” Salazar said. “This could have been prevented. … Our minds are directed towards the families involved.”
The suspected driver under the influence of alcohol is accused of hitting a stagnant vehicle in the southbound lane of the 605 Highway near Roseclan Avenue around 1am Sunday, according to ABC-7 news. The hit vehicle was engulfed in flames, killing all four of them.
The driver and passenger, who were driving drunk, reported being injured in the collision and were taken to hospital. Authorities are planning to arrest the driver on suspicion of DUI causing the injury.
All southbound lanes on the 605 Expressway remained closed until Sunday morning, from Firestone Boulevard to Rosecrans Avenue as investigations continued.
