LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – A balcony collapse in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake area rattled residents and sent one to the hospital on Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 11:20pm in the 800 block of Robinson Street near Marathon Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“We heard the boom in the night and got out of bed. Neighbor John Macquarie told KTLA’s Jean Kang. “We came out on the balcony and on the other side there were a few. I heard a moan. Luckily, we weren’t directly under the collapsed balcony.”
McAuley explained that his neighbor, four of his dogs were on the balcony. The balcony was three stories tall, and I enjoyed a sudden disturbance and crashed into the balcony below.
“I called 911 and we just jumped into action,” he said. “We knew something was going on horribly, and it was very surreal.”

With immediate thought, Macauley’s wife grabbed the sheets and used them to help pull people trapped in corners with furniture from the infringed structure.

In the footage of the incident, obtained by KTLA, city fire trucks lined up the cramped neighbourhood streets, responding to the collapse.
Of the people on the balcony, one was taken to hospital with what appears to have been a wrist injury, while the other three refused treatment. The dog was not injured either.
In the video of the collapsed balcony, the right side of the structure appeared to have given way. The extent of damage to the balcony below it is unknown.
“They were shaking a bit, but I’m very grateful that everyone is healthy and safe,” McAuley said.
An inspector with the LA Building Bureau reportedly told residents that recent heavy rains have damaged the structure and led to its collapse.
