Briana Soto, 17, had returned home from work with McDonald, who was quickly shot and killed from her Long Beach home last March. Now her murderer will spend the rest of his life behind the bar.
On Thursday, 34-year-old Troy Lamar Fox was sentenced to 358 years of life in another shooting two weeks later in a first-degree murder and attempted murder of four other people.
Fox shot a high school senior when he approached his home on 11th Avenue and Lewis Avenue around 8:30pm on March 26, 2024. She passed away three days later in the hospital, prosecutors said.
Then, on April 9, Fox left the car with his rifle and fired fire on another vehicle carrying four minors near Pine Avenue and 14th Avenue in Long Beach, prosecutors said. The minor survived the attack, but the shooting caused an attempted murder charge against Fox.
Six months after Soto was attacked, Fox was arrested in connection with her murder. Officials said they pursued DNA and video and cell phone evidence to identify FOX.
Outside a court hearing last October, Soto’s mother, Anna, said, according to a report from the Long Beach Post, “That justice is done for her, that’s what I ask.”
Fox has a long criminal history. He was convicted in 2013 of pose a crime threat. He was convicted of grand theft in 2015, 2017 and 2018. He was found guilty of commercial robbery in 2019, according to court records.
In March, ju-decides found Fox was found guilty of two counts: one murder count, attempted murder in four counties, and a felon in possession of a firearm.
“Briana Soto had her life before her. She was preparing for prom, her 18th birthday, graduation,” Atty. Nathan Hochman said in a statement Thursday. “Today’s sentence would never allow anyone who stole her future to freely hurt another innocent person.
