Law enforcement is searching for a convicted murderer who escaped custody in Central California on Monday.
Cesar Hernandez fled around 10:45 a.m. while being transported to appear in Kern County Superior Court in Delano, according to a news release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
“Upon arrival, Hernandez escaped from officers’ custody, jumped out of the van, and is currently on the run,” the department said in a statement.
At approximately 10:45 a.m., authorities were transporting incarcerated Cesar M. Hernandez to appear in court. Once in Delano, Hernandez escaped from officers’ custody and jumped out of the van, where he is currently on the run.

Officers from the Department of Corrections’ Special Services and Investigative Services division were searching for Hernandez with assistance from the California Highway Patrol and Farland and Delano state police.
Hernandez was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, officials said. He moved from Los Angeles County on June 27, 2019.
Hernandez, 34, is described as 5-foot-1 and 161 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing an orange top and pants.
