The majority of Californians are opposed to illegally providing medical compensation to adults in the United States, despite what Golden State currently offers.
A California Institute of Public Policy Survey found that 58% opposed it, and 41% of those who voted for it were in favor of the policy. The move came into effect last year so that taxpayer dollars can be registered with Medi-Cal, the state version of Medicaid “regardless of the status of immigration.”
According to the poll, the majority of surveyed individuals were used to support the 2015-2023 idea.

The MEDI-CAL programme has become innovative this spring. This is because it is necessary to maintain a multi-billion dollar loan. The governor’s office proposed changes such as a “registration freeze” and a monthly payment of $100 for “individuals with certain statuses” on Medi-Cal.
However, according to Calmatters, some of these changes are unlikely to advance in the democratic supermajor Congress. According to Congress’s budget proposals, Democratic leaders could create $30 a month payments, rather than $100 for people with “inadequate immigration status,” starting in 2027.
Congress also proposes scrapping the $2,000 asset limit pitch proposed by the governor for Medi-Cal participants, and instead reverting it to $130,000.

Rep. Carl Demaio of R-San Diego told Fox News Digital that there is even higher percentage of Californians opposed to providing healthcare compensation to illegal immigrants.

“This argument is not about ‘whether medical care should be provided to illegals’. Because that’s the wrong question, should we provide free taxpayer funds to illegal immigrants and not have enough money for the poorest of us? ” Demaio said. “That’s the real argument, and this poll doesn’t even capture it.”
“The Democratic Party’s position is much worse than the poll suggests,” he continued.
Newsom’s Office previously attributed the issues with Medi-Cal to wider economic concerns.

“Governor Newsom proposed adjustments to the 2025-2026 budget that will allow California to maintain its commitment to the immigrant community, protect the compensation for millions of Californians, and maintain the strength of our values and healthcare system. “To be very clear, these proposals are the result of $16 billion Trump’s poor performance and higher than expected healthcare use.”

Fox News Digital has contacted the California Latinx Legislative Conference about the poll. The Caucus has continuously raised concerns about the impact of MEDI-CAL reforms on immigration.
At the federal level, the settlement bill currently in Congress could affect states that provide Medicaid compensation for illegal immigrants.
