Officers whose Colorado Attorney General General Phil Weiser allegedly share information with federal immigration agents in violation of state law are still under investigation, but he could face a massive fine.

“The complaints filed against the adjutant are civil lawsuits (not criminal). Violations of these laws could result in injunctions and civil penalties of up to $50,000,” Lawrence Pacheco, communications director for the Colorado General’s Attorneys, told Fox News Digital in an email Friday.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputy Director Alexander Zwink and another deputy were disciplined by the sheriff’s office after allegedly sharing information about the drug task force with federal immigration agents during the arrest of a Brazilian university student.

Mesa County Sheriff Todd Lowell said 19-year-old nursing student Caroline Diaz Goncalbus was drawn to Zwink due to a traffic stop on June 5, when he allegedly got too close to a semi-truck. Dias-Goncalves was released with warnings about 20 minutes later, but federal immigrant agents stopped her and quickly arrested her.

Zwinck was placed on three weeks of unpaid leave and Erik Olson was placed on two weeks of unpaid leave, Rowell said in a statement. Both have been removed from the task force.

Two supervisors were also disciplined, one was suspended without paying for two days, and the other received a letter of prim responsibility. A third supervisor was given counseling.

“Based on our findings, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office should have had no role in the series of events leading to Miss Diaz Goncarvez’s detention and we regret that this happened.

“We have sought cooperation with state and federal partners to resolve crimes in our community. In the area of drug blocking, HSI was our primary federal law enforcement partner. However, although HSI was overseen several months before this incident, my agent was not involved in immigration enforcement.

Colorado Gov. Jared Police signed a law earlier this year that prevented local governments from sharing immigration information with federal level immigration officers.

“Essentially, this new law provides narrow exceptions for Colorado law enforcement to work with the federal government if the ICE or the Department of Homeland Security seeks assistance in a particular criminal investigation,” Kristi Burton Brown, executive vice president of Advance Colorado, wrote in an email to Fox News Digital.

“However, local law enforcement agencies that actively notify DHS are absolutely prohibited if they discover that a violent offender or a repeat felony is illegal.

The law that prevents law enforcement from working with the federal government in many situations is former police officer R-Colo. was condemned by Senator Gabe Evans.

“As a former police officer, I know first hand that Colorado’s sanctuary law reversed the crime switch and handcuffed officers on behalf of criminals. Let’s be clear. Our state’s left-wing law doesn’t prioritize public safety and they don’t prioritize political games,” Evans posted on X.
