A Ventura County man was sentenced to jail for a DUI crash that injured two police officers.
Luis Fernando Piqueno, 28, of Moore Park, has been sentenced to five years and four months in prison for colliding with two Simi Valley officers on a patrol vehicle.
On October 24, 2024, Piqueno was speeding up on Tapo Canyon Road in Simi Valley when he collided with a marked patrol car.
Piqueno admitted to driving 80-90 mph at the time. Both officers were taken to hospital for treatment.

Alcohol screening revealed that Piqueno’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.13%, which exceeded legal limits.
On June 16, 2025, he pleaded guilty to a DUI causing injury. He also admitted special allegations that involve commissioning a felony causing serious physical injuries, causing injuries to multiple victims, and driving intoxicated.
The case marked Piqueno’s second DUI conviction. On July 24th, he was sentenced to five years and four months.
Piceno’s driving privileges were revoked for three years and ordered to pay Simi Valley police nearly $41,000 in compensation for damage to the patrol vehicle.
“The case shows the devastating and lasting consequences of impaired driving,” said Ventura County District Attorney Gillian Ewan, who charged the case. “We are grateful that our officers are alive today. The District Attorney’s Office is committed to keeping Ventura County safe, taking accountable to drivers with disabilities.”
