In 2007, the world was featured by couples Lori and Chris Cobble from Orange County, California. Their three young children, Kiel, Emma and Katie, were killed in a catastrophic crash on Mission Viejo Interstate 5 when a large rig hit a family minivan.
The heartbreaking story has created international headlines. Cobble has appeared on numerous news programs, including the Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah conveyed her heart, “If there’s one thing we’ve learned… life can change in an instant.”
Their losses sparked new calls for safety reform on the highways. The late Senator Diane Feinstein called for stricter surveillance of the trucking industry, including restrictions on driver logs and mandatory breaks.
“These catastrophic crashes highlight the costs of not moving forward with common sense measures that could make highways safer,” wrote Sen. Feinstein in 2007.

Over the next few years, Cobble’s story took a miraculous turn.
The couple welcomed triplets of Ellie, Ashley and Jake, who are now seniors in high school. Their journey of healing and hope has impacted millions.
Now, the family faces another unimaginable challenge.
According to the new GoFundMe page, Lori, now 48, was recently rushed to the ER after experiencing troublesome symptoms. The doctor diagnosed her with stage IV IV glioblastoma. This is an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer. The emergency surgery removed 80% of the tumor, but the rest behind the right eye is inoperable due to its delicate location.
Lori has started an intensive course of chemotherapy and radiation. The family describes the path ahead as “sudden and uncertain,” and says the current burden is “too much for a single family to carry on their own.”
