A high-speed police pursuit on the 210 highway in Los Angeles County ended with a violent clash that killed the suspect.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol confirmed that the suspect was declared dead at 11:18am Friday by LA County Firefighters in response to the crash. According to CHP officials, the driver was the only car in the car, and no one was injured in the crash.
The pursuit began in Camarillo with officials from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, passing through a thousand oaks and continuing into Simi Valley, which CHP officials took over.
The incident began around 10am when officers responded to a call about a massive theft at a large department store in Camarillo, according to the Sergeant. Monica Smith of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. The responding officers then sought to halt traffic by identifying vehicles believed to be involved in the theft. The pursuit began shortly after the suspect refused to pull for the officers.
KTLA helicopter footage shows the suspect was driving at a speed above 115 mph.
The crash took place eastward on the 210 Expressway just west of State Route 2. The driver plowed into the back of the truck, and the front driver side of the car gave a heavy impact on the rear passenger side of the truck. Part of the front and side of the suspect’s vehicle was torn from the vehicle.
CHP officials attempted to treat the suspect before LA County Firefighters responded and declared the driver dead.
Both CHP and Ventura County Sheriff’s officials did not provide additional details regarding the suspect.
Traffic was closed along the 210 highway near Crash Scene on Friday. One lane traffic opened on Friday afternoon, but the three lanes on the eastern side remained closed. The transition road from 210 to 2 also had three lane traffic closed for an unknown period, CHP officials said.
