A DUI driver has been arrested after authorities said he attacked and killed a woman walking on a Riverside County highway.
On May 29th, California Highway Patrol Officers responded to a crash in the southbound lane of the 215 Expressway near Placenia Avenue in Perris at 9:35pm.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a female pedestrian was walking down the highway when she was hit by the driver of a Ford F-150 truck that had just entered the ramp.
The Ford driver escaped the scene without checking the woman. He was later identified as Carol Omo Aba, 30, of Perris, the CHP said. The woman was declared dead at the scene by emergency services.
CHP received tips from community members who will help track Ford drivers at Menifee residences.
The suspect was identified as a 41-year-old Menifee resident and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, felony hit and run, and vehicle manslaughter charges and driving a motor vehicle while suspended or revoked.
“Resolution of this case was possible through the efforts of a combination of our community and alliance agencies,” said Captain Steve Blanconnier, commander of the Riverside Area.
Officials said the incident remains under investigation and informed witnesses will be asked to call CHP’s Accident Investigation Unit at 951-324-7210.
