The car chase involving a suspicious vehicle robbery in Orange County ended violently Wednesday morning when vehicles rolled on five highways, killing three people and injuring two other passengers.
Authorities say people inside the vehicle are believed to be involved in the robbery of an Anaheim vehicle and were driving a black sedan when the crash occurred.
Anaheim police reportedly broke into vehicles and photographed items in search of suspicious activity near Euclidean Street and La Palma Avenue around 2:45am. Matt Sutter said with Anaheim Police. When officers arrived they saw a black sedan believed to be involved in a robbery speeding. Officials said the officers tried to pull on the vehicle, but the driver didn’t stop.
The chase began around 2:50am, and crashes were reported on the Northbound 5 Expressway near Brookhurst Street before 3am, officials said. During a short pursuit, officers saw several items thrown from the vehicle onto the highway.
It is unclear why the driver lost control, authorities said. There were no other vehicles involved in the rollover crash.
The two passengers who survived the crash were listed in serious and stable conditions, Sutter said.
Traffic is affected for hours during the morning commute, and the California Highway Patrol leads the investigation into a fatal collision.
