Ryan Rouse, a man accused of trying to assassinate then-Donald Trump in September 2024, appeared in court as his team fought the Justice Department over evidence. The defense team and the DOJ filed accusations before and after the alleged withholding of evidence in preparation for the September 8, 2025 trial.
The main issue between defense and the prosecutors is the issue of firearm testing. The defense calls for testing firearms in the DOJ position. The reason for the test’s defense is that they believe the gun is too old to fire the distance that the DOJ claims. However, prosecutors argue that firearm testing is rare and could destroy evidence.
“Their request to inspect firearms this way, as I told my defense attorneys, was very unusual in the FBI experience, but we still made it happen,” the prosecutor wrote in a court filing.
On September 15th, Ryan Rouse was said to have taken a rifle while Trump was playing and hid in the bushes outside the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. His son, Oran Rous, pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.
Trump says he will be happy to release reports about his assassination attempt against him.
DOJ appears to have 90 gigabyte body cam footage from a search for Routh’s Home in Hawaii. The search was made in September, weeks after the failed assassination attempt. In addition to the footage, prosecutors say hundreds of law enforcement reports are sifting away, but they are sure they will turn that over in the next two weeks.
Prosecutors have said in court filings that they have provided evidence when it becomes available, but the defense has not filed anything. The defense team argued that they had no obligation to provide evidence to the DOJ. They used insane defense to rule out, but Routh’s team said they should refrain from providing theory and look into all the prosecutor’s findings.

Now, the Routh defense team is looking for a complete list of evidence and information on where everything is. The defense claims that when they tried to see the firearm in question, there are no items in the evidence box that match the gun. However, in that court, prosecutors allege that remains physical evidence at the FBI facility in Miramar, Florida, or passed there.
Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley told America Reports that the Routh’s Defense Team “is not approaching this incident.” Additionally, Turley says that much of Routh’s actions after being caught deny potential crazy pleas.

Rouse has been accused of waiting more than 12 hours at the boundary of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, and hoped to assassinate Trump at the time while playing golf on September 15, 2025. Later, it is said that Rous targeted the agent before fleeing the scene. He was later arrested and charged by a large ju judge.
President Trump said he is happy to announce the findings of the two assassination attempts made against him during the 2024 campaign. However, there are no solid details at this time.
