While driving in a residential area in Orange, the man was arrested for shooting and killing a woman.
On May 6, 24-year-old Amber Parsons from Costa Mesa and his passengers drove near Highland Street and Delmar Avenue in the Honda SUV at about 12:30am.
They were turning around in the Highlands culmination as the gunmen suddenly appeared on foot and began firing from behind the car.
Parsons was shot and declared dead at the scene. The passengers were described as only women in their 20s and were not injured.
The suspect fled the scene before an orange police officer arrived. The windshield on the back of Parsons’ SUV was shattered by a gunshot, with several bullet holes visible in the car’s body.
Investigators later identified Alan Plata, 21, of Orange, as a suspected murder. On May 9, Orange Police, together with members of the SWAT team and Rahabra police, surrounded the Rahabra home in which Plata was detained.

He was arrested for murder, attempted murder and breach of probation and booked at Orange County Jail.
The motivation behind the fatal shooting remains unknown.
“It’s unclear what led to the shooting, why it happened, whether it was random or whether it was targeted,” said said during Phil McMullin at the Orange Police Station. “Our detectives are actively working on this case.”
Police said there was no obvious reason for the two casualties to be in the neighborhood. Because neither of them lived there. However, police noted that the area is known to be gang-related.
The fatal shooting occurred at the same intersection in November 2024 where a man allegedly fired a police officer. He was eventually arrested and remained in custody after Manhunt.
