President Donald Trump has said he supports a proxy vote for new parents in Congress, but House Speaker Mike Johnson said he believes proxy votes are “unconstitutional.”
With 218 lawmakers supporting the move, there is ample support to force the vote.

After Democrats and nine Republicans blocked efforts to put the issue aside and urged Johnson to call home for a break for the rest of the week, Mace said she was “absolutely” about the question.
“I’m absolutely no about all proxy votes. That’s wrong,” Mace told Fox News Digital.
“We have a job, we have a constitutional obligation to show up and do our job.
Asked if there was an exception to Congress’ new mother and father, Mace replied, “No, not zero.”

“As a woman and as a mother, I want to make it in my merit,” she added. “I don’t want to be given an exception for anything. I want to be able to make it here like everyone else.”
Mace also shared that she strongly supports the Secretary of Defense’s move on to other hot questions about women’s exceptions.
“I think it’s good for our country to do it based on merit and do the same standards. It’s good for those willing to put their lives at risk.

“I love what Pete Hegses does,” she added. “I think he’s doing an incredible job, and he brings a lot of transparency to the DoD and the pentagon, and where they’ve failed, he’s trying to pick up the piece and get it back.
Despite the changes in standards, Mace predicted a “big increase with recruitment” in all military sectors under Trump and Hegses’ leadership, saying, “I think there’s something great to come. The enemy has to be scared.”
