The process of rebuilding Altadena and the Pacific Pallisad continues to move slowly more than six months after wildfires ripped through the neighborhood.
Los Angeles County previously set a goal of issuing rebuild permits within 30 days in areas affected by the Eton Fire. But now, as rebuilding permits take up to 58 days, the county government is considering artificial intelligence to accelerate the process.
Once Archistart’s new AI tool begins the review process, you can compare city and county zoning regulations and building standards. Through the “e-check” process, AI can flag potential problems early.
“What Archistar AI does is read those floor plans, extract the appropriate information and check it to let you know if you are following or not following it,” said the founder or Dr. Archistar.
AI tools check local rules and speed up the process for permit applicants, Coorey explained.
“If someone submits a plan to a city or county, you know you’ll see that you’ll go a few times, maybe two, three, four times, so what this is doing is getting a pre-check to tell you the answer before you get in,” the owner said.
If the homeowner chooses a pre-approved rebuild plan or “like” model, then the permit issuance time should be reduced if the destroyed or destroyed home is replaced with the same size and location. But in reality, Eton Firefighters have waited for at least two months. LA County officials hope that AI tools will ultimately provide much-needed relief.
