Actions to help new budget airlines take their place when Avelo dissolves West Coast Operations

Just days after Avelo Airlines announced it would close the base at Hollywood Burbank Airport and halt operations on the West Coast, another budget airline announced it would take over many of Abelo’s abandoned routes.

On Thursday, Breeze Airways announced its own West Coast expansion, bringing ultra-low-cost carriers to Burbank, serving several cities previously served by Avelo.

Starting in March 2026, Breeze will add new services to five cities on the West Coast, including Burbank and Alcata in California, Redmond and Eugene in Oregon, and Paso/Tricity in Washington. Most flights are available for immediate booking.

This important West Coast expansion will increase Breeze’s network to over 300 routes in 76 cities and 34 states. The airline began flying in 2021 just four years ago and recently recorded two quarters of operating profit.

Founded by David Neeleman, who previously co-founded JetBlue, Breeze says its business model focuses on providing flights to unserved destinations and offering “affordable fares with plenty of perks.” These benefits include pricing for Ratcarte, reduced fees and expanded seating options, with no additional charge for changes or cancellations up to 15 minutes before departure.

“With the expansion of the West Coast that connects travelers to a wider national network, Breeze’s services will provide more options and convenience to communities that do not receive these services,” says Neelman. “Our continued growth is evidence that our unique form of air travel combined with affordability and ease with high value options.

The Utah-based airline already operates multiple flights from LAX, Santa Ana’s John Wayne Airport, San Bernardino International Airport and San Diego International Airport, serving from San Francisco International Airport.

If you choose to fly from Burbank, it includes a low introductory price of as little as $39 each way.

The full Breeze Airways schedule from Hollywood Burbank Airport is below.

Alcata Eureka, California (starting Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, March 12th)
2026, $39* one way); Eugene, Oregon (Thursdays and Sundays starting from $49 from March 19, 2026*
One-way); Pasco-Tri-Cities, Wash. (Wednesday and Saturday, starting March 18, 2026
$49 *One way); Provosal Tlake City, Utah (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and
Sunday from March 11, 2026, $39 * one way); Redmond Bend, Oregon (Monday and Friday from March 13, 2026
One-way for $49).

The news comes days after Avelo Airlines announced it would halt all operations on the West Coast to focus on operations on the East Coast. Abelo established Hollywood Burbank Airport as a base on the west coast, but will leave the airport for good by the end of the year.

The company is facing a major online backlash and is seeking boycotts to partner with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency to provide charter flights for deportation purposes. The airline said the backlash would not affect the decision to close operations on the West Coast.

Abelo provided considerable holes in small and medium-sized airports in California and the Pacific Northwest.

Lukas Johnson, chief executive of Breeze Airways, said the company has been “long-running monitoring” the opportunity to expand along the West Coast, and that these new routes continue Breeze Airways’ efforts to provide affordable services to underserved communities.

“[We] We hope that this news will be welcomed for travelers in these communities,” he said.

Flights can be booked on the company website and app.
