Activists advocate for LA police to protect federal immigration agents

Dozens of community activists gathered outside the head office of the Los Angeles Police Department in downtown to blow up the department over claiming it was in collaboration with federal immigration enforcement projects.

Enforcement work carried out by federal agents around East 9th Avenue and South Spring Street Tuesday morning prompted protests outside police headquarters.

Footage of the incident, obtained by the KTLA, could be seen facing LAPD officials verbally, appearing to be a federal officer in detention.

“You’re watching the video, so everyone’s here,” Gabriel Quiros Jr. said the crowd gathered in front of the department along with Centro CSO. “They watched a video of the ice and LAPD collaboration.”

Ron Gosches, another activist with Union del Barrio, said residents near the attack will be coming out to protect those in detention.

“Who protected the temptants who were luring our people?” he said. “LAPD Officer.”

LA police officers issued a statement shortly after 9am that they responded to the area with reports of possible ongoing lures.

“The initial comments on the phone showed that several individuals were trying to detain people without identifying themselves, prompting concerns by the bystanders,” the official said.

Federal agents and LA police saw downtown on June 22, 2025, as people were verbally at law enforcement agencies where people detain individuals. (Union Del Barrio) Federal agents and LA police verbally confronted people on June 22, 2025 as people who were at odds with law enforcement agencies where people detain individuals.

Authorities further said the situation escalated when officers arrived, with prosperous crowds spilling down the streets, creating “a volatile and serious public safety hazards” in busy downtown corridors. That’s when additional units are called to help manage the scene.

“At one point, a partially handcuffed woman was standing near a LAPD officer. A few minutes later, a federal agent approached and took over the control of the woman,” the official said. “LAPD was not involved in detention or arrest.”

“Where is Koros in Los Angeles?” accused of inciting violence against the federal government.

But activists said that police officers are keeping the public away from federal immigration projects as a clear indication that LAPD is helping the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies carry out the attacks.

“We must call for the sanctuary city, that its claim is myth and lies,” Hamid Khan, along with the LAPD Spy Coalition, at the demonstration. “We need to shut down these nodes of information sharing because what it is is a direct pipeline of deportation.”

To further clarify that position, the LAPD statement noted that the role of executives is limited to maintaining order and public safety.

“Officers remained on the scene to lift the tension. Federal agents did not inform LAPD of pre-planned enforcement activities. The department responded only based on the first radio call reporting a potential enticement.”

Many of the rally activists never bought it. He said it was tempting to eliminate undocumented people from the street without legitimate procedures.

“There are a lot of people who are invited,” Gosches told the crowd.
