New York City Mayor Eric Adams tore Zoran Mamdani, the Democratic mayor’s enemy, for attending the funeral of NYPD officer Didalur Islam, who was killed last week, but did not publicly acknowledge their deaths by skipping services for other fallen officers killed during his time in the state legislature.
Former NYPD captain Adams suggested that Mamdani’s presence at Islamic funerals was politically motivated and contradicted his previous stance on police. Since then, Mamdani has returned those statements.
“He lost an officer before he ran for mayor. Where was he? He lifted Islamic officers during the election, so did he feel that those officers deserve to be lifted? We need to ask, where was he?” Adams told reporters at City Hall on Monday, according to the New York Post.
“You should lift the officers when you’re not running for mayor, he could have lifted them when he was a council member.

Mamdani, a socialist who has been in the New York State Legislature since January, did not attend the funerals of the NYPD’s finest six people who served from 2022 until March this year, Adams said.
“Not once [Mamdani] Adams pointed to the 2022 murder of Jason Rivera police officer Wilbert Mora, and said, “I said something in response to the police officers who were shot or killed.
Like Mora and Rivera, NYPD’s Jonathan Diller, Troy D. Patterson, Lawrence Brom and Crossing Guard Krishtina Naplava were all killed during that period.
Mamdani shortened her recent trip to Uganda and returned early to attend an Islamic funeral. He first went straight to the family home and was with them for two hours per report.

Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani’s team for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
Islam was shot last week by Las Vegas shooter Shane Tamura in the lobby of an office tower at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan. Tamura is said to have killed three other people in a rampage before turning the gun over her.
Mamdani initially used X to share his pagrim dol’s share of the passage of Islam.
“I am heartbroken to learn of the horrific shooting in Midtown. I have the victims, their families, and NYPD officials in a state of crisis in my mind. I would like to thank all my first responders on the ground.”

However, the Ugandan-born lawmaker has been a critic of the NYPD voices in the past.
In a post on June 8, 2020, Mamdani wrote, “No, we want to refund the police.”
“No investigation is needed to know that the NYPD is racist, anti-Quer and a major threat to public safety. #DefundTheNypd. [New York City mayor] Use budget tricks to keep as many cops as possible with beats. Not in fake reductions – police refund,” he posted on June 28, 2020.
In December of the same year, he sought it to be “dismantled.”
“All this misery. All for the money. On the last budget, the city council tried to have the NYPD cut its overtime budget by half. They simply refused. There is no negotiation with this evil and corrupt institution. We will refund it.
However, he sang another song during the mayoral debate in his primary election.

“I will not refund the police. I will work with the police because I believe that police have an important role to play in public services, public safety,” he said.
On his campaign website, he is calling for the creation of a Public Safety Agency.
“The police have an important role, but for now we are relying on them to deal with the failures of our social safety net, which prevents them from doing their actual work.
