New York Mayor Eric Adams said Thursday that plans are working to enable federal immigration officials to operate on Rikers Island following a meeting with border area Tom Homan.
Adams met with Homan at the closed door body meeting. In a statement, he said the executive order is working to “reestablish the ability of ice agents to operate on Rikers Island, as they did for 20 years.”
“But now, ice agents are particularly focused on supporting the Correction Intelligence Agency in criminal investigations that focus on violent criminals and gangs,” he added.
Tom Homan believes the leakage of the ice attack is “from the inside.”

Adams said the pair had discussed how to fight violent migrant gangs and embed more New York Police Department officials into the federal task force.
Unlike many Blue City mayors, Adams has expressed interest in working with the Trump administration to crack down on illegal immigrants to combat crime.
He said New York was responsible for the numerous immigrants transported from the southern border to the blue city.
“New York City has received little help from the previous administration, with over 230,000 immigrants coming to our city for around $7 billion, with over 230,000 immigrants coming to our city and getting to our city. We were forced to carry the burden of the coming national humanitarian crisis,” Adams said.

“That’s why I want to work with the new federal government rather than a war with them, find a common foundation and improve the lives of New Yorkers,” he added.
The meeting comes days after the Justice Department ordered federal prosecutors to stop the bribery lawsuit against Adams.
Acting Assistant Attorney General Emil Bove wrote a letter Monday to representing the US attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) instructing SDNY to withdraw the federal case against Adams and dismiss it without prejudice.

In response, representative U.S. attorney Daniel Sasson resigned on Thursday in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondy.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has taken a strict stance on sanctuary cities. On Wednesday, Bondy notified New York and other cities.
“This is a new DOJ,” she told reporters that she has announced lawsuits against officials in New York and government. “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. That’s stopping. Today it’s stopping.”
