First on FOX: First-term House Republicans and military veterans are looking at Sen. Tom Tillis’ bid for the North Carolina Senate seat after GOP lawmakers announced they would not run for reelection.
Rep. Pat Harrigan, a former Army Special Forces officer deployed in Afghanistan, was elected in November 2024 to represent North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District.
It comes after President Donald Trump promises to find a key challenger for Tillis on the Senator’s decision to vote “no” on a key procedural hurdle to advance commander’s “Big Beautiful Building.”

Harrigan is former House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry, RN.C.
He was one of the first to express his interest in Tillis’ seating, which could adapt to the busy Republican primary race, ahead of the mid-2026 period.
Another first-term House Republican, Rep. Tim Moore, is considering bidding for Tillis’ Senate seat, a source familiar with his plans told Fox News Digital.
Moore is the former chairman of the North Carolina House of Representatives.
Tillis criticized the current political environment, revealing that he would not be reelected in a bomb statement Sunday afternoon.

“Too many elected officials are motivated by pure raw politics that doesn’t really bother you about those who have promised to represent the campaign trajectory. After being elected, they don’t mind studying policies to implement and understand the potential policies that may be given to young adults living in trailer parks, and making efforts to understand the outcome of struggling to meet the end.”
“A lot of my colleagues noticed last year and sometimes joked, so I wasn’t exactly excited to run another semester.
The statement came on the second day of continuance, when the senators are wrestling with “one big beautiful bill.” This is a huge law that promotes Trump’s agenda on taxes, immigration, energy, defense and government bonds.

Tillis said he challenged spending cuts on bills targeting Medicaid, claiming it would damage rural North Carolina communities and hospitals.

The Senate voted 51-49 to begin debate on legislation late Saturday. Tillis and Senator Rand Paul were the only Republicans who voted “No.”
“Many people wanted to run the primary against ‘Senator Tom’ Tillis,” Trump said on Saturday. I will be meeting them over the next few weeks to find someone who will adequately represent the greats of North Carolina and, importantly, the United States of America.
