Red flag warnings remain in place for much of Los Angeles County, and forecasters warn that severe fire weather will continue into Friday night.
Firefighters continued Thursday fighting the Palisades Fire, which has burned more than 17,000 acres, and the Eaton Fire, which has scorched more than 10,000 acres in the Pasadena and Altadena areas.
But Los Angeles got a breather Wednesday as firefighters were able to extinguish a wildfire near Runyon Canyon above Hollywood and stop a house fire in Studio City from spreading.

Unlike Tuesday night’s devastating situation, when wind gusts of up to 160 mph were recorded, aircraft were able to drop water on the Sunset Fire on Wednesday night. Officials initially ordered a mandatory evacuation of the Hollywood area north of Hollywood Boulevard, but later rescinded most evacuation orders.
Officials urged people to remain vigilant. By Thursday afternoon, winds are expected to pick up again along the region’s Santa Ana wind corridor, with gusts up to 40 mph from the northeast and isolated gusts up to 110 mph.
Winds are expected to peak Thursday night into early Friday morning, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned that erratic winds were possible in south-facing hills, “which could lead to uncontrolled fire spread”.
