First on FOX: Eric Conroy, a US Air Force veteran and former CIA case officer, announced a campaign to represent Ohio’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House on Thursday.

The Cincinnati native, who spoke with Fox News Digital prior to his announcement, said southwest Ohio deserves a “common-sense supporter” in Washington, D.C.

Conroy criticized incumbent Democrat Greg Lansman as “anything” Ohioan decision-maker, and linked Landsman’s policy record to President Joe Biden’s progressive agenda.

“This is a decision along the line of AOC and Nancy Pelosi, not someone from southwestern Ohio,” Conroy said of the second-term Democrat.

Once a reliable swing, Ohio moved to the right in the last few election cycles. Businessman and political outsider Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno defeated longtime incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown in 2024 to secure a Republican majority in the US Senate.

On the campaign trail, Moreno tied the voting records of Democratic opponents to Biden’s, taking advantage of Ohio’s conservative changes.

Conroy denounced the Democrats’ “lack of initiative, lack of foundation, lack of real ideas” because of Ohio’s red waves.

“Greg Landsman is part of that issue, part of the party that has not really been able to address the daily issues people are encountering, and instead they are focusing on promoting a leftist agenda.

Landman was elected to represent Ohio’s District 1 in 2022 and released former GOP MP Steve Chabot. Democrats won a reelection campaign last year against Republican challenger Orlando Sonza, an Army veteran and former Hamilton County prosecutor.

Conroy said it would bring a multifaceted approach to representing Cincinnati in Washington, DC.

“I’m running for Congress as I’ve seen the threats I face overseas and the struggles my family faces at home. Now is the time for new leadership to stand at the extremes, restore common sense and fight to make sure America’s dreams stay out of reach of all Ohaion,” Conroy said.

Among Conroy’s campaign promises is his commitment to building an economy, supporting law enforcement, and securing borders. Republicans have also vowed to protect Social Security and Medicare, a hot button issue heading into the 2026 midterm elections, as Democrats seize Medicaid reforms for Republicans included in President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful bill.”
