Airbnb.org, a nonprofit founded by the short-term housing giant, has partnered with 211 LA to help people displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires.
These organizations provide free temporary housing to people who have lost their homes or been forced to evacuate in the Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Sylmar areas.
“As soon as we saw the wildfires start on Tuesday, we sprang into action,” said Christoph Gauder, executive director of Airbnb.org. “The need is truly overwhelming. Within hours of launching the program, we had thousands of requests.”
In the first 36 hours of the program, about 6,500 people were helped with free stays on Airbnb, Gorder said.

Potential hosts do not need to be in Los Angeles. Some locations are in Nevada and Arizona.
Airbnb.org has previously run similar programs after natural disasters in the Deep South, Brazil, Japan, and last fall’s Rhine Fire in San Bernardino.
