Two people accused of stealing the vehicle were arrested in Orange County after being chased thanks to a pair of airpods remaining in the car.
Irvine police video shows officers rushing to surround the suspect’s vehicle that was stolen on Saturday. Inside there were two Texan men identified as 30-year-old Steve Voluss and 34-year-old Marcel Urban.
“I know who’s what they’re doing and why they were in California,” Sgt. Curry Davis of Irvine Police Station.
The officer was able to track the stolen vehicle after the owner remembered that her airpod was still inside. This allowed police to see where the car was heading, and officers could find it at the shopping plaza at the University Park Centre.
“It’s a good lesson to try something like that today, it’s something that allows you to keep track of your car and track your belongings in places that aren’t too obvious,” Davis said. “So, if you are a victim, we can try and recover that item for you.”
Thanks to AirPods, legitimate owners were able to get the car back.
