After a day of competition and most information on the nature of the immigration enforcement project in Los Angeles, the Department of Homeland Security has finally released details about the joint operation that took place Friday morning.

The HSI confirmed that, together with partner agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Drug Enforcement, have provided four federal search warrants at three locations in LA. KTLA has confirmed it is two clothing stores in downtown Los Angeles and a Home Depot in the Westlake area.

Federal agents will load detainees into vehicles following an immigration enforcement project in downtown Los Angeles on June 6, 2025 (KTLA)

“Around 44 people have been arrested administratively and one has been arrested for obstruction. The investigation is ongoing and updates will continue as needed,” a spokesman for the HSI said.

That single obstruction arrest was confirmed by US Attorney Bill Essay as David Fuerta, president of the California International Service Employees Union.

“Federal agents were running a legal judicial warrant at ALA’s workplace this morning when David Fuerta intentionally interfered with access by blocking the vehicle,” the essayri said on social media. “He was arrested for interfering with federal officers and will face arrest in federal court on Monday.”

Essayli posted images of the union leader handcuffed and placed behind the vehicle. A video of the alleged incident that led to his arrest was also posted. It showed that Furuta was temporarily standing near the front of the unmarked white SUV used in the surgery before getting out of the way by federal agents.

He is seen falling to the ground with several agents around him, probably while the protesters and agents exchange shabs.

Say California President David Fuerta is seen arrested by a federal agent in downtown Los Angeles on June 6, 2025.

Fuerta’s arrest, who said his union member was injured, was condemned by California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

“No one should be harmed by witnessing government actions,” Newsom added.

In a news release issued Friday evening, Seiu California said Huerta was treated at a local hospital for being injured during his arrest but is currently in federal custody.

He issued the following statement through the union:

“What happened to me isn’t about me. This is much bigger. It’s about us as a community standing together and resisting the injustice that is happening. Hardworking people, as well as our families and members of our community, are treated like criminals. We all need to stand against this insanity.

SEIU President David Fuerta has been pushed out by federal agents to leave the SUV used in an immigration enforcement business in downtown LA (US Attorney Bill Essay).

SEIU is a union representing social workers, nurses, state workers, administrators, doctors, security guards and more. The union, which boasts membership of more than 750,000 members, has pledged to push it back into the ice to the federal agency that detained Furta to “peacefully observe.”

In a post on X, Seiu California wrote: “ICE chose the wrong side. The wrong state. The wrong person. And the wrong union. David Fuerta stood up.
