Areas evacuated due to the Eton fire in January are now re-evacuated in preparation for a strong storm rolling SoCal.
Sierra Madre is most affected by the evacuation order that came into effect at 7am Wednesday. Other parts of the community have received evacuation warnings, which is not mandatory, but authorities are urging residents to prepare.
When the storm arrived, we advised to stay away from all beaches in Los Angeles County
“A Phase 2 storm event is projected and urges the city of Sierra Madre to issue evacuation warnings and orders for high-risk areas,” local officials said Tuesday. “This storm cycle is expected to be similar in intensity to the February 13 storm, which could cause serious mudflows and debris movements.”

Orders and warnings are set to expire at 6pm on Thursday. However, it can also be expanded.
Authorities also announced that Athens’ solid waste collection will not occur in the upper or lower canyon areas. Additionally, street parking is not permitted under evacuation orders or warnings.

Evacuation orders and warnings are also ordered for the Palisade burn scar area, with parts of the Pacific Coast Highway closing during the storm.
Further south, Orange County officials announced that an evacuation warning had been issued for the Canyon area near the September 2024 airport fire site. Communities under the voluntary warning include Trabuco Canyon, Hot Springs Canyon, Bell Canyon, Long Canyon and Modjeska Canyon, according to a press release from local officials.
