Be careful of the cooler handles the next time you head out to the beach or the wilderness. A million ice chests have been recalled after a customer reports that they have lost their fingertips.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that the igloo is recalling a 90-quart flip and tow rolling cooler after receiving 12 reports of fingertip injuries, including amputations, bone fractures and lacerations.
“The tow handle can pinch the consumer’s fingertips against the cooler and pause the risk of cutting and crushing the fingertips,” Recall said Thursday.
On the Igloo website, the company said injuries could occur at “pinch points” above or around handles, latches, hinges, lids and other moving components on the cooler.
The recalled coolers were sold between January 2019 and January 2025 for $80 to $140 across the US, Mexico and Canada.
Retailers that sell the product include Costco and Target. Online retailers include Amazon and Igloo.
This product was manufactured before January 2024. A complete list of model numbers and dates can be found online. To check the cooler, look for the manufacturing date engraved on the bottom of the cooler.
