The US Columbian man pleaded guilty to federal charges as he joined an armed robbery at a hotel in Beverly Hills and belonged to a robber crew who owned a firearm registered as a former Los Angeles Police Department officer.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, 22-year-old Jamaa Mauricio Sepulveda Salazar pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of interference in commercial by robbers in accordance with the Hobbs Act.

The robbery occurred at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on August 7, 2024, and was also Sepulveda and co-defendants, 20-year-old Jesus Eduardo Brian Padron Rojas, and a Venezuelan man from the United States.

In the case, Sepulveda and Padron (ages 21 and 19 at the time of the crime) approached a man identified as “TA” in court documents while sitting on the patio of a BLVD restaurant inside the luxury Beverly Wilshire hotel.

The guys held a “TA” on the patio at the muzzle and stole a Patek Philippe Watch, which was valued at $1 million.

The LA County District Attorney’s Office Director said the two suspects, both part of South American robbery crews, and that the robbers made the area a case for two days before searching for the victims.

“The crew happened to meet another victim walking through Beverly Hills wearing a $30,000 Rolex watch,” the DA’s office said in a release issued Monday. “A member of the Cepulveda crew stole the watch at the muzzle.”

Investigators quickly learned that the robber crew was staying at Airbnb in the Expo Park, and a search warrant was executed, listing multiple firearms.

One of the guns, the loaded Glock .45 caliber handgun, was registered as a former LAPD officer of Christopher Dorner, known notorious for committing murder before his death in a shooting with law enforcement in February 2013.

It is unclear how the gun was owned by the robber crew.

Sepulveda, who has been in federal custody since August 2024, faces a 20-year prison sentence.

US District Judge Otis D. Wright II was scheduled for a ruling hearing on July 14th.

The criminal charges are still pending against Padron.
