An immigration agent saw him urinating on the school grounds in Pico Rivera, officials say

The school’s surveillance cameras captured about 12 migrants and customs enforcement agents urinating storage containers near the playground after trespassing school property, district officials in Pico Rivera said in a letter to the Department of Homeland Security.

According to members of the El Rancho Unified School District, the incident occurred on June 17th in a case of 10 unmarked vehicles carrying agents parked on the Ruben Salazar High School campus.

School staff told federal agents they had no permission to enter or stay on campus grounds and asked them to leave.

“Please note that no legal or justification provided or provided as to why the ice agent entered and stayed on the school premises, did not provide a judicial warrant.”

After federal officers left in compliance, school officials issued warnings notifying the community of the short presence of agents on campus.

“Immediately after the incident, ERUSD staff advised ERUSD executive management that an ice agent urinating in Salazar in public had observed,” the letter continued.

The school’s surveillance camera reviews appear to support the claims as agents are seen in footage moving back and forth between several different storage containers and perhaps the vehicle.

Officials from El Rancho Unified School District detailed the incident in a letter sent to DHS secretary Kristi Noem. School officials said in a letter that they reassured themselves in wide sunlight during the day on the district property between 8:54am and 9:04am.

“At the moment adjacent to one of the storage containers is a kindergarten playground used by staff and children in ERUSD’s early learning program, whose black tops are clearly marked with the playground mark,” the official said.

Another container used by the agent is next to Smith Park and Valencia Academy of the Arts Elementary School.

“The reasonable person in the profession that enters Salazar, where ice agents urinate, is clearly aware that the surroundings are from schools where minors are taught,” the district’s letter states. “The ICE agents made no sound and respectful judgments, accompanied by the risk of trespassing Erusd School Grounds, exposing them to minors and committing public crimes under California law.”

The district completed the letter by requesting the name, title and badge number of each agent, officer, supervisor, or representative.

In a statement to the KTLA, a DHS spokesperson will simply say “the issue is under investigation.”
