Certainly, we’ve seen archived TV clips of the Beatles’ famous appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, but what about long-standing photos from the same time that one of the band members took?
This spring, Gallery Gagosian in Beverly Hills will be exhibiting photos of the recently rediscovered Beatles.
A combination of black and white and color prints, McCartney’s photographs (many of which have never been seen before) were taken during the peak of Beatlemania from December 1963 to February 1964. The camera is directed at hysterical fans waiting outside the band’s car window.
While most Angelenos are happy to see photos hanging on the gallery walls while on the road (April 25 to June 25), for the collectors’ crowd, Gagosia Director Joshua Chuan has teamed up with McCartney to create a limited edition of the individually signed print. A portion of the revenue will support wildfire recovery efforts.
This is not a McCartney exhibition that will hit California this spring. The Gagosian Show matches Paul McCartney’s Photos 1963-1964: Eyes of the Storm, a London-issued exhibition that just opened in De Young, San Francisco on March 1st.
Photos of Paul McCartney from April 25th to June 21st can be found at Gagosian LA (456 N Camden DR, Beverly Hills). The gallery (free!) is accessible Saturdays from 10am to 5:30pm.
