Angel City Brewery in the LA Arts District is set to close, the company announces

The beloved brewery, located in a historic location in downtown Los Angeles, is closed.

Located at the corner of Traction Avenue in Alameda Street and the Arts district, Angel City Brewery is expected to close its doors next April when the lease ends.

The decision was confirmed to KTLA by the Brewery owner, Boston Beer Company. The Boston Beer Company is best known for its Samuel Adams brand and twisted tea and angry orchards.

Both Angel City Brewery and True LA, an adjacent taproom of the same facility that serves the other brand owned by the Boston Beer Company, and True LA, will be closed to allow the fourth-largest brewer in the US to focus on growth [its] Core, national brand. ”

Indeed, LA will be closed “gradually” over the next few months and will switch to Friday and Saturday services by the end of the year. The existing space, which was completely renovated when it was reopened under a true banner several years ago, will be reused to provide “overflow and rental space,” officials said.

Meanwhile, the brewery will continue to service during the company’s lease period, which ends in April 2026.

The Boston Beer Company believes that the Angel City Brewery brand actually works relatively well, and that while the Los Angeles taproom is not in line with current business strategies, it can survive in itself.

“We believe this brand could be a successful, powerful local product outside of Boston Beer, and we will put a great deal of effort behind Angel City’s sales to ensure the brand remains alive,” a company official said.

Who is that guy overlooking the LA Arts district?

Angel City Brewery was founded in 1997 by Michael Bow of Culver City. In 2004, the company purchased a German-themed brewery in Torrance’s now-closed Takayama village, then moved to the historic John A. Roeblering Building in 2010, where it resides today.

It was once an industrial factory for the manufacture of metal cables that were used to construct local bridges, power lines, and even slink toys.

The brewery was acquired by Boston Beer in 2012, creating an all-new beer menu from scratch, turning the Roebling Building into a must-see attraction in downtown LA, and ultimately launching LA.

Angel City is a popular spot for dog owners, sports fans looking for drinks before heading out to the Dodgers, Lakers and Kings games, or tourists and Angeleno have a quick bite to explore Little Tokyo and the Arts District. Some people stop by just to see the slides.

If Boston Beer can find buyers for existing brands, the new owner will inherit a loyal fan base. If no one comes forward to save the brewery, the Roebling building is considered a hot item in the real estate market.

Boston Beer says it wants to “avoid a major impact” on affected employees. It truly aims to absorb as many employees as possible to Angel City brewery staff from LA and hire a brewery team for the rest of the company’s ownership.
