Our son, Senator Angus King Jr., I-Maine, has announced the bid for the governor of Maine.
“I’m Angus King. If you know your dad, you know my worth,” the governor hopeful said in a campaign video.
His father previously served as governor from early 1995 to early 2003, and served in the US Senate from early 2013.

“From the day we met at Skouhegan, we knew there was something special about Angus. He was always hardworking, clever, engaged, caring, and very proud of the work he is trying to do, according to the website of Angus King III’s campaign, which states that he was born in Skouhegan.
“He’s a builder, he knows Maine, an optimist who won’t quit until he’s done. He cares people and builds things to make the world a better place throughout his life. I think his clever, experience and character combinations will make him a great governor of Maine.

Current Maine Governor Janet Mills is a Democrat who currently serves for two consecutive terms and may not run again in 2026.
The Maine Constitution provides that “an individual who has served two consecutive popular, elective four-year terms as governor shall not be entitled to take over himself.”

Maine Secretary Shena Bellows announced her governor’s bid earlier this year and is also running a Democrat.
