President-elect Trump commented Wednesday that it was “unfortunate” that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.N.Y.) was recently denied a leadership position on a House committee, and progressive politicians were amused. showed a similar reaction.
“It is truly unfortunate that AOC lost the battle for Democratic leadership,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday. “She should keep trying. One day she will succeed!”
The New York congressman then screenshotted Trump’s remarks and wrote a humorous response.
“You know it’s bad that even President Trump is making me feel bad,” Ocasio-Cortez said, laughing and adding an emoji.

The funny exchange came just a day after the 36-year-old Democrat lost his bid to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. The leadership role went to Democratic Representative Gerry Connolly of Virginia, who received 131 votes to Ocasio-Cortez’s 84 votes.
“I appreciate the support of my colleagues and the confidence they have placed in me to lead House Democrats on the Oversight Committee,” Connolly said in a statement after his election to the House Democratic Caucus.

“This is going to be trench warfare,” he added. “Now is not the time to be cowardly. I promise the American people that our Democratic committee will be a beacon of truth and ready to counter Republican gaslighting from day one.”
Ocasio-Cortez, who has served on the oversight committee since 2023, wrote on the social media platform Blue Sky that she had “done my best” in her candidacy.

“I tried my best. I’m sorry I couldn’t convince everyone. We live to fight another day,” she wrote.
