Nicki Minaj appeared to be the target of a swatting call claiming the shooter was in her hidden hill residence on Wednesday evening.
At 7:05pm, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office received a report of fatal weapon assault in the community, according to a department spokesperson. The caller said a friend shot a female black adult and the two suspects were in a place where they were all wearing black, the spokesman said.
According to the Lost Hills Station Supervisory Commander, the report was later determined to be a false 911 call that triggered a law enforcement response, a false 911 call made with intentional intent to trigger a law enforcement response.
The sheriff’s department did not say whether the phone was for the hip-hop artist’s home, but the neighbors confirmed the time when law enforcement responded to Minaj’s residence.
She bought a vast 12,000-square-foot property for $19.5 million in 2022 at the same exclusive San Fernando Valley Enclave, where several Kardashians own luxury homes, according to a report from TMZ.
The spokesman said the call was the only report received for the assault that reached the business line and carried a deadly weapon at the address. The business line makes it difficult to track the identity of a caller, and in cases of reliable reports of violence, authorities usually receive multiple 911 calls, he said.
This wasn’t the first time a Grammy-winning artist appeared to be targeted by swatters.
According to TMZ, sheriff’s deputies responded to Minaj’s home following a false report of child abuse in June 2023, following a false report of shooting a month later.
The appeal is a growing problem in Southern California and across the country. In January 2024, the FBI reported that agents had launched more than 100 separate threat investigations in over 1,000 agencies in 42 states for a month alone.
Many celebrities in the Los Angeles area have been recent victims, including Jennifer Aniston, JoJo Siwa and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
